Supplies Needed:
Fabric (2 pieces measuring 9 inches x 26 inches each)
Fusible Interfacing
Medium Tearaway Stabilizer
Thread
Velcro (optional)
2 piece of ribbon cut 16" inches each
1. Take one piece of fabric and fold in half so that
it measures 9x13. Press in place with wrong sides together. Gently open up
and apply light fusible interfacing to one side on the inside. Repress.
2. Repeat for second piece.
3. Using rotary cutter cut the two pieces to 6.50 x 11 each.
4. Next stack the pieces of fabric one on top of each other. Making sure
that the folded edges and other three sides match and line up.
5. Set aside
6. Hoop your stabilizer.
7. The first color that sews out will be the outline stitch. Sew it now.
8. Place your stacked fabric right over the outline making sure that the
6.50 length side folded edges lays right on top of the outline stitching
facing up or toward the top of the hoop..
9. Secure the folded edge size with three evenly spaced pieces of blue
craft tape. Smooth well and secure other edges with one or two pieces of
tape.
10. Sew next color which is the tack down stitch.
11. Remove hoop (DO NOT UNHOOP)
12. Trim stitching on the three sides (non folded edge sides) close to
stitching but do not cut into the thread. Do not cut into the hooped tear
away stabilizer. Gingerly remove tape.
13. Replace Hoop
14. Sew out next color which is the final satin stitch, a decorative
stitch and two circles.
15. Remove From hoop.
16. Gently remove the tear away stabilizer.
18. I have included a extra design that you may wish to add to your finished
bag. Simply sew it out, trim up, and hot glue/hand tack to the bag front.
19. To create handles insert ribbon horizontally from one hole to the next
on each side of the bag allowing enough length for carrying. You can tie
the ribbons on the outside of each hole. They handles can drape down the
front and back of the bag when in use. To remove fabric from the hole you can
use a hole punch or very sharp scissors.
18. You may wish to add two small
Velcro pieces to the top of the inside bag to ensure that it will stay closed
during transport. Another cute idea is to sew a decorative button on the front
side and use velcro inside to keep closed.
